When Is It Effective To Install A Bridge?

Bridges are probably the 2nd best alternative to replacing a missing tooth.
You can only have a bridge to replace a missing tooth between two teeth.

Traditionally, it requires shaving down the other 2 teeth so that, bridge can be placed over the preparations.
The bridge is made of porcelain. The porcelain looks beautiful and very close to the natural tooth so that’s not something to worry about.

This is more aggressive than an implant, which is why i always try and discuss the implant option first. Not everyone however, qualifies for an implant. So bridges are slightly more cost effective, and are a great options in some scenarios.

Nowadays for some teeth, there are also more conservative options such as Maryland bridges, composite bridges, and cantilever bridges where there’s a lot less shaving. When i can offer them i offer them. These are very exciting modern techniques. I have done a lot of training to offer these so that we are shaving as little natural tooth as possible. That makes me and the patient feel good about the service.

Maintenance of the Bridge

Careful and appropriate maintenance of the dental bridge is important in order to prolong its longevity. Brushing your teeth at least two times a day, flossing the gums by the bridge, and routinely visiting a dentist will not only prolong the life of a bridge, but also of the teeth that the patient has.

Is a Dental Bridge a Useful Option for You?

Dental bridges are ideal for patients that are missing one or more teeth. Clients that are looking to restore their smile, oral function, or looking to prevent teeth from shifting, will find dental bridges useful. A dentist will be able to advise a patient on the type of bridge that will suit their lifestyle the best.
