The Link Between Orthodontics, Invisalign, Smile Design

Invisalign is a brand of for clear aligner therapy. Instead of the uncomfortable metal brackets and wires, Invisalign offers a more comfortable solution in the science of MOVING your teeth in the right position.

Modern Orthodontics

Modern orthodontic, orthodontics being the science of moving teeth, is facially driven. This means that we move teeth according to where it would look best in your face.

The reason all people get braces or Invisalign at a young age is that it sets them up for success for the rest of their life.

Let’s think about it mechanically. Your jaw, muscles and teeth are all connected. Teeth are very hard, so if they aren’t in the right position, that is the reason why you may get muscle tension aches, jaw pain, and tooth wear, from grinding.

Early Intervention

If you get orthodontics done at a young age, the bones are softer, so it’s easier to move. It’s also easier to influence the growth of your jaw, so you can really help your facial as well. This will make you more beautiful if early intervention is done. This is especially the case for people with overbite and underbites.

At our office, we monitor the growth pattern of your children. Sometimes children need surgery, referal to specialists for braces. All of this is done with the idea that we can enhance the beauty of everyone, with orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign for Adults

I offer Invisalign for people that may have missed the boat with braces. It’s never too late to invest in your smile, and it’s never too late to align your teeth. If you get Invisalign, you are still investing in yourself to get less grinding then. Your mouth is always moving. You’re chewing laughing grind, so having a strong base is always going to be important.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign are basically trays. Each tray does a certain amount of movement. Instead of the metal brackets that rip your cheeks like in braces, with Invisalign you get tooth colored attachments that allow the tooth to move in a certain direction. You know the trays are working because as you wear the trays they get more and more comfortable. It’s user friendly, and actually a lot of people end up going through an Invisalign diet. They end up brushing and flossing and being more strict with their snacking. So these are really good training wheels for a lifetime of good habits.

Why Straight Teeth Matter

The reason its important is because if your teeth aren’t straight, and you start wearing your teeth down, you lose tooth structure from the bottom up. As you age, your lips also become lazier, so they don’t climb high as much. So then you start showing less teeth from the top down. So as you age, you just show less teeth in general. You can’t do much about the lip, but you can make lifestyle decisions to make sure your teeth remain undamaged from the bottom up.

Invisalign vs Braces

Whenever you can do Invisalign over braces, do it, just because of the convenience of it. You get to take it off, enjoy your food, brush and floss, and then put it back on. It’s a lot more user friendly. I don’t take on the very difficult cases. I have a great team of orthodontists that i refer to, whether it be for braces or Invisalign, that can ensure you and your child are well taken care of.

Smile Design Foundation

In terms of smile design, Invisalign or orthodontics is usually step 1. People talk about having a smile makeover, or veneers. Having straight teeth is usually the foundation. It’s like the pillars of the house. Having a strong foundation means you reduce the need of having to shaving unecessary tooth structure, as well as increasing the likelihood your smile makeover is as esthetic as possible. This is because you get the foundation of having your teeth already in the right position as well as a stable bite, before you do any cosmetic work. Secondly, if your teeth look good before cosmetic work, chances are, you need Less invasive work, to make look even better after.
